About
A project by Robert Vîiu
Handmade art. Editions made to last. A search for form.
The project
Contemporary Form is a printmaking project built on a simple belief: original, handmade art should be within reach — not only for established collectors, but for anyone who feels something when looking at a work and wants to live alongside it.
Every work is made by hand, in limited, signed and numbered editions. The techniques — cyanotype, linocut, oil on paper — are chosen for their directness. There is no digital intermediary between the idea and the object. What you receive is exactly what was made.
The project is, honestly, also a search. A search for techniques, for processes, for what happens when you apply the chemistry of light or cut a shape into linoleum and press it onto paper. Some works resolve cleanly. Others open new questions. That tension is part of what Contemporary Form means.
The founder
The project was founded by Robert Vîiu, an artist from Bucharest who studied Conservation and Restoration at the National University of Arts. He is, at heart, a technician — someone who prefers to understand how things work by making them, and who has spent over a decade in the day-to-day operations of galleries and museums in Romania.
Being close to art — to the way it is preserved, exhibited and lived with — shaped both the seriousness of the approach and the intention to make it accessible. He grew up surrounded by artists and art, and the curiosity born there became a practice of its own.
He shoots on film and digital, looks after plants and listens to a lot of music. Their traces show in the work.
What's next
Contemporary Form starts with a single artist, but it is designed to grow — to include other voices, other techniques, other hands. Collaborations with artists who share the same values — process, honesty of material, accessibility — have been part of the plan from the start.
If you are just starting to collect, this project was made with you in mind.
The techniques
Cyanotype
A 19th-century photographic process that uses light-sensitive iron salts. Every work is made by hand, one at a time.
Linocut
Relief printing, hand-cut in linoleum. Strong shapes, direct marks, ink pressed onto paper.
Oil on paper — coming soon
Original oil works on heavy paper. One-off pieces, no editions.
